Welcome to Project "Scaremont " The HPS Automotive shop race car is a 1978 Ford Fairmont. It has been nicknamed the"Scaremont". Faimonts were the first fox body cars weighing just 2700 lbs with about a 3'' longer wheel base than the Stangs. Most of the Mustang race parts bolt right on. This page is dedicated to the build up of the "Scaremont" so you can watch its progress. |

We started with a clean car. Parked since 1990, it was rescued from a back yard in the lower valley for $200. (Try to picture it with no wheels and no hood scoop.) We put in gas, a battery and it fired up. But the 6 banger had to go. Heres what happened next:

The dash was removed and gutted, carpet removed, and the red interior was changed to black. The back seat was retained because this is a street car. The roll bar helps strengthen the chassis as well as protect the occupants.

1999 spindles and brakes will help slow it down and the red 90/10s are visible behind the tubular a-arm, The stock manual brake master cylinder was retained (But replaced). The Mustang weld-in sub frame connectors fit just right.

The tubular K-member bolts right in too. The 3 core radiator should cool the 408 Windsor just fine. A C-6 with a brake will transfer the torque to the 8.8.

Here's the build up of the 408 Windsor with Probe crank, rods, pistons and girdle, half filled block, RHS heads 215's, custom Howards N2O hydraulic roller cam, with a ZEX perimeter plate, NOS Pro Fogger set up and a Pro Systems N2O carb. All of this will run through the TCI C-6 transmission with a 3800 stall and trans brake. (see more pics on the next page.)

The fox body 8.8 Diff is built with c-clip eliminators, five lug 31 spline axles, an Auburn posi, 3:55s and a girdle. Adjustable uppers and lowers helped to get the 27" Hoosier quick Time Pro's to hook. The 50/50 Lakewood shocks and Eibach drag springs with right side air bag will help to plant the tires. The rims are 8 inches wide with a 5 1/2 inch back spacing.
